Tsugaru Kanayama pottery (Aomori)
Tsugaru Kanayama Pottery is made from local materials, such as using high-quality clay deposited in the Kanayama Pond, and Akamatsu, a Japanese red pine as the fuel for the kiln.
Kanayama pottery is strongly influenced by Sue ware, unglazed pottery made from the middle of the Kofun era (300 to 538 AD) through the Heian era (794 to 1185), which used to be in this area. Very simple look but no chemicals are applied on the surface, a unique deep texture by firing works carefully at a high temperature of 1350 ℃.
