【What is Mino ware?】
Mino ware, with a history dating back over 1300 years, originated in the Toki Area (Toki, Tajimi, Mizunami, Kani) of Gifu prefecture during the 16th or 17th century. In 1978, it was recognized as a Traditional Craft of Japan by the Ministry of Economics, and currently 15 different types of Mino ware are designated. This type of tableware is the most well-known in Japan, with Gifu prefecture producing over 50% of the ceramic market in the country.
Throughout its history, Mino ware has developed new glazes and innovative technology to produce various shapes, colors, and designs to match the evolving tastes and demands of the people. One unique aspect of Mino ware is that it doesn't refer to a specific style, as 15 different types exist today. You can appreciate the variety of glazes, shapes, designs, and styles that Mino ware offers.
